With the International break robbing The Blades of a game this weekend I thought it would be a good time to take the opportunity to look at how some of our former players are getting on.  Ten players featured on United’s end of season release list back in May and the majority have since picked up new clubs. Here I look at how a few of these players have been received  at their new clubs.

Ryan Flynn was was snapped up by League One rivals Oldham following his release but despite netting his first goal of the season this weekend he has so far failed to impress the Latics faithful.

“I’m not a lover of Flynn”

“does Flynn give 90 minute commitment?”

“Flynn plays and looks like he genuinely doesn’t give a shit, …”

“Flynn is anonymous in midfield.”

“Flynn is less effective and more powder puff than Winchester”

“Flynn terrible again”

“Needs to get some splinters from the bench”

“How much longer do we persevere with Flynn?. He is an absolute passenger.”

“Can anyone tell me what Flynn has done to merit a continued place in the first team? He doesn’t bring anything to the team at all!”

“I lost count of the amount of times I saw Flynn knocked off the ball. My daughter has more strength than he does.”

“Thought Flynn was an incredible coup of a signing but yet another game passed him by, he was awful. Needs a kick up the arse.”

“Another inept performance from Flynn, yet he appears undroppable.”

“I’ve seen Flynn twice now and think I’ve touched the ball more times than he has. After half time against Shrewsbury I thought we had made a sub that I’d missed as I hadn’t even clocked he was on the pitch in that first half.”

Another player who seems to be struggling at his new club is last season’s club Captain Jay McEveley. The Liverpudlian joined Scottish side Ross County in June but a sending off early into the season hasn’t helped endear him to the fans of his new club.

“McEveley’s first yellow was a shocking challenge and he should be better than that”

“Why someone as experienced as McElevey is coming across the back of the striker like that in the box is beyond me. He was just asking for a foul to be given against him.”

“Was there any need for McElvey to make that challenge. two clean sheets away in a row when he didn’t start.”

“I thought McEveley looked dreadful in the Motherwell game, even before the red card.”

“McElvey not a patch on Davis”

“when the teams took to the field and McEveley had replaced Davies, confidence drained.”

“The back 4 v Rangers and Hearts had done very well. McEveley on the other hand has been a liability so far. He looks composed on the ball, wins his fair share in the air, but is then prone to a brain-fart.”

“the 2 home games I’ve seen him in so far (Dundee and M’well) I’ve not been impressed. But early days and hopefully he comes good.”

Goalkeeper Mark Howard lost his place in the Blades starting 11 half way through the previous campaign and he was let go once his contract was up. He has since managed to fix himself up with a move to Bolton and he seems to be well liked by the majority of their fans though a few hold concerns.

“Howard has made more appearances than anyone for us this season”

“Howard made some smart saves”

“Howard – Saved it from being 3/4”

“Madine, Spearing and Howard were the only ones that looked arsed”

“Some sublime saves from Howard”

“Howard made a couple of decent saves but made a right arse of the goal.”

“Sheff United released him and didn’t play him for a reason. Recent weeks are showing that reason”

Harrison McGahey never really managed to hold down a first team place at United after his move from Blackpool in the summer of 2014.  In fact he has already started as many league games for his new club Rochdale as he did throughout the entirety of last season for The Blades. The Dale fans so far have mixed views on him.

“Mcgahey is a brainless clown. No criticism of any other player. Absolute moron who is costing us points week in week out”

“he’s started reasonably well here. The problem is the lack of competition at the back.”

“How many clean sheets have we kept with him in the team? How many clean sheets did we keep with an identical back four which included Eastham? That foul was absolutely brainless and shows how much of a liability is he. Same thing every week”

“He’s been absolutely terrible”

“McGahey has started the season well for us” “

Our defending has been poor, but very little of that has been down to McGahey”

“I’m not sure why McGahey is getting so much criticism from some. Yes he made a clumsy challenge today, as he did at Port Vale but he is a young player without many career starts. He will make mistakes but he is a good player in the making and I would say he has been one of our better players this season in what has been a struggling side.”

“Hope McGahey gets some confidence back”

Injuries all put paid to Florent Cuvelier’s chances of succeeding at United and he is now trying to rebuild his career at Walsall. Although he hasn’t played much, some fans have been encouraged.

“Makris or Moussa needed to come on for Cuvelier. He’s not a winger. It’s not rocket science”

“injury prone player”

“MOTM is between Etheridge & Cuvelier who both influenced the game”

“Flo looked really good today in my book”

“Positive signs today from Flo”

Finally in this round up we turn to our former winger Jamal Campbell-Ryce who’s nomadic career is now in it latter stages. Barnet are his 13th club and the fans are impressed with what they have seen

“Campbell-Ryce is our best right winger”

“I was really impressed with him at the weekend, quick, strong, skillful and direct.
He’ll definitely torment some fullbacks this season” “JCR looks a menace”

“Vanilla-Ryce delivered more decent crosses in one match that what we are used to seeing all season!”

“JCR played well”

“JCR doesn’t look to be remotely short on confidence”

“We played some great attacking football, especially from Mauro and jcr.”
