” All my blades mates say it will be 4-0 or more reversal, they are all uber confident of a massive win.”
“Said that for the first game which was a very drab affair with 1 shot on target that went in.”
“Absolutely no pressure on us for this whatsoever.
im saying nothing at work, im not biting to a single attempt to wind me up about Sunday.
keep shrugging it off with a smile and walking away which is getting me even more ‘we’re gonna batter you’ comments.
he who laughs last…..he who laughs last. “
“Pressure is all on them. They conceded 24 shots at home on Tuesday and lost their heads. They may just be in for a shock.”
“Pressure is all on them. They’re the favourites. They’re the ones rolling into it in the top 2.
I think it’ll be a similar game to the one back in November. Tight, not many chances for either side.
If we score early then I’d fancy us. If they score early then it might be a tough afternoon but I’d like to think that we’ve got enough about us to deal with them. For all their supposed quality up front, they’ve scored one less than we have after tonight. If the defence that is their main strength.
Crowd needs to be on it and make the place a cauldron. No matter how good they are, they won’t want to be playing in a loud hostile Hillsborough. Start well, keep the place loud and we’ve got a real chance.”
“Actually thinking about it, it’s almost a free hit as nobody outside the club and fan base expect us to get anything
After all they have one player who has cost something like 5x the cost of our entire team.”
“They are by far the better team, they have paid sums for players we could only dream of, yet the pressure is all on them this Sunday. They are expected to batter us, they have one of the most expensive squads in the league, whereas ours was the 4th cheapest.
That said, if they allow us 23 shots, like they allowed Bristol City t, we’ll be the one’s dishing out a battering.
Wilder will be having sleepless nights about the game.”
“They got battered by Bristol city at home there nowt special and we are due a home win”
“I really do fancy us. I might be wrong obviously, that’s football.
I think Danny (and the lads who are fully with him) has been quietly waiting for this one after Wilder’s antics following their smash and grab in November.
I remember a press conference not long after where he had that glint in his eye when asked about it all. ‘I look forward to March’. Come on Wednesday. “
“If there’s any justice left in this game then Wednesday will win on Sunday and we can shove it right up that piggy scruff Wilder after his Banner Cross antics.
The atmosphere needs to be red hot. Get an early goal and they will crack. “
“Spoken to a few blades fans today, they all said they think we will win on Sunday.
Imagine having a squad 4 times the value of the opposition and expecting to lose!”
“United fans are bricking it. The pressure is on them – 100%.”
“The top three even four in this league are a step above the rest, we have struggled against the top 4… I think it will be a tough game, but then its a derby so anything can happen, would love to give their promotion chances a dent and our playoff chances a boost however I think those top 4 teams are just too strong for us and we will fall short of the playoffs this season.”
“Our defending does worry me, but if we ride our luck we can be a threat to anyone. A draw would suit me just because it was evident how desperate Wilder is for a double that he rested key players last night. We have already taken points from them by simply existing.”
“If they were rested for Sunday’s game, it shows beating us is more important to the Peroni pisshead than promotion, and we’ve effectively taken 2 points off them already”
“As always with these games a win would be amazing, a draw more than acceptable and if it’s a narrow loss like we suffered at pig lane I won’t lose any sleep, what I do always fear is something like that 2-4 shit ever again.”
“Loved the fact we kicked Norwich off the park especially in the second half. At the weekend I’ll be surprised if both teams finish will 11”
“No wonder Blades are nervous about the hiding they’ve got coming on Sunday. They better go up automatic cos just as a reminder:
United playoff runs: 8 (EIGHT)
United playoff promotions: 0 (ZERO)”
“Boxing day 1979 still grates on them, they are desperate for their own version of it and I suspect that applies to Wilder also”
“I reckon a hell of a lot of their fans would take beating us but not going up if you offered it to em.”
“can kinda understand that way of thinking as daft as it sounds. They have been up there a couple of times recently and the novelty has probably worn off. It can’t be much fun seeing your team getting battered 5 or 6 nil every week.”
“What you have to remember is this… no matter how many times United beat us their victory is always hollow, as they are so bitter towards us, because when we beat them eventually, it reopens the generational wounds passed down from their fathers and grandfathers.
Those fathers, grandfathers and perhaps great grandfathers that saw them take on a second hand nickname of the Blades, take on a second hand football ground at Bramall Lane, witnessed United in Division 4- a tier of football Wednesday have never sunken to- witnessed the FA Cup semi final defeat in 93,witnessed watching the Owls play in Europe- something those Blades have never experienced themselves. The ‘mind the gap’ season etc etc
The aforementioned is where that inferiority complex and ultimately hatred in a lot of cases, comes from. We don’t carry the same bitterness as our Blades counterparts because we know in our hearts that we have the superior history and the superior class of character in the majority of our fan base (even down to our respective managers) and that cannot be taken away by losing a Derby.
The epitome is this- we would happily take winning the Premier League and having United as runners up as we’d be top dogs but it would be good for Sheffield. United would rather we were in league one and United finished 4th from bottom of the Premier League. They’d forego success if it meant they had the ‘bragging rights’ of being a division or two above us. Mistakenly believing that the ‘pub league’ jibes would heal the aforementioned generational wounds. They won’t.
So the pressure is all on them on Sunday and they know it. It they win they’ll enjoy it, and give it the big one, but we’ll pick ourselves up and realise that no matter the disappointment we’ve made huge strides this season.”
“Queen Elizabeth II was born, grew up, had 4 children, had the longest reign in British history, and had a life of 96 years and she STILL wouldn’t have seen sheffield united win a major trophy”
“Funny thing, and I was talking about this with a pig recently….they’ve been better than us on the pitch for the best part of 20 years (not that they’ve done much really, just that we’ve been monumentally shít), and yet we’ve still had the better “moments” as fans during that time.
They’ve had nothing like Cardiff 05, Wycombe 12, P’boro/Barnsley 23. Not many there, and they may only be promotion from league 1, but all unforgettable moments of pure drama and emotion. And as fans that’s what it’s all about. That’s where the memories come from.
Every time they go up, it’s automatic and a formality. They never seem to get the drama and occasion.
Ok the achievement of the TEAM, when getting to the PL is superior. But as fans, all they’ve got to really remember, savour and cherish for their 20 years of “dominance”, is a 4-2 win at Hillsborough. That’s the ONLY thing they’ll be watching back on YouTube from that period! “
“Prem this prem that, all them years pigs have been in prem and still their achievements amount to nil, non, nada, zilch”
“And every real football fan knows this. I have met fans from all sides whilst living abroad and not one of them in our football chats has ever made a comment about them being the biggest side in Sheffield. Every real football fan knows we will always be the biggest side in this city no matter what happens – a bit like United to City.”
