“After more antipation, excitement and dreaming of what could be since may 2008, Friday was a huge disappointment. Everything went wrong, and coming away I was pretty despondent. With the leadership and their decision making demonstrated over decades, if I were a betting man, I’d bet on it being another 17 years before we get this close again.
But since then I’ve convinced myself that it’s not over yet. Sheffield United are beatable. They’ve lost 3-0 at home this season. They haven’t won the play offs in 9 attempts. An early goal, the crowd get edgy, and anything is possible. Twine from a free kick. Nahki with half a yard of space in the box. Earthy looks a class above. Knight is irrepressible. McGuane against WBA looked like prime Vieira. Armstrong…there must be a performance in there somewhere… somewhere! And let’s not forget that deadliest of weapons…harry cornick’s long throw. We always believe.”
“Nothing is more dangerous than a wounded animal.”
“3-0 , a dangerous score. “
“I completely agree they can be beat and we could score 3 goals as we have nothing to lose now so may as well go for it. If you look at most teams that beat them this season they played a 4231 or 433 formation. We have the players to play these formations also they struggle with crosses into their box that’s where they seem to concede a lot of goals from quick balls going across the box and strikers and attacking midfielders getting on the end of it. Also seen cooper concede a few time from long range shots so it’s always worth having a shot if it opens up outside the box. Hopefully Manning does his homework because they can be beat it’s not over yet.”
“They lost 3-0 at home to Hull. It’s possible………..”
“0-1 at half-time isn’t inconceivable. And from there, far stranger things have happened…..”
“I just hope LM sends out a positive team with a positive mindset. I’d rather lose 3-0 again going for it rather than sitting in. An early goal and they will be twitching.”
“We just need to go all out attack all the pressure is on united we have nothing to lose now aint like we can go there just to contain them we have to play and attack we need to redeem our selves abit”
“We have to score three times minimum. We haven’t done that this calendar year and have only done it 4 times this season – Millwall, Preston, Plymouth and Portsmouth. Only two of those give us the actual score we need.”
“To put into perspective how rare 3 goal away victories are, our last one was Boxing Day 2023 at Watford.
Goodness knows how long it’s been against a top 3 club.
On the positive side, we’re surely due one soon. “
“at 0-3 I think it’s all over. We’ve only scored 3 once away from home this season and Preston scored one. We’ve looked very weary at times in the last 4 games where we’ve only scored 3 goals and conceded 12.
I can’t see us keeping a clean sheet and they’ll be way too clever to let us score 3 or more.”
“One of Sheff’s strengths is that they can score well made goals but they’re also really effective from set plays.
Even if we went there & played superbly well, I just can’t see us keeping a clean sheet; they looked dangerous from long throws & corners & we’re missing our only centre back that’s dominant in the air.”
“It’s done. We are more likely to lose by another three than score three.”
“People forget that they are a very good. Parachute backed Championship side with a virtually full fit squad. Wilder’s biggest concern over the last three weeks or so has been to keep his players motivated after the disappointment of missing out of the automatics. Its obviously a big concern for him given how much he’s had to understate the position they find themselves in.”
“***** me off how Oxford and Plymouth both beat Sheff Utd at home in the last month, and we gave away the soft goals we did last night. Of course the injuries and red card didn’t help, but it still annoys me.
Problem is we can go for it all we like but we need to win by four goals, and I can’t see us keeping a clean sheet with no fit defenders and relying on Vyner.
Manning’s got to find a way to restore some pride as it could well set the tone for August. Equally, humiliation could also spill over into August and given we were closer to Luton in our points total than we were to Sheff Utd, the margins are so fine between top six now and bottom three next year. It’s a big game but not for reasons we might’ve thought “
“Never been impressed by Sheff”
“They’ll just go up and die on 18 points again.”
“don’t like sheffield or there fans always found sheffield Wednesday fans more classy”
“Sick of yo yo sheff united (don’t like Wilder)”
“would love to see Wilders moany face when they lose in the final”
“I thought it was interesting to hear Wilder to the Sheff Utd fans to get tickets for the second leg and make our support for the first. Thought it would’ve sold out before the first leg.”
“Sheff utd crowds have been odd all season one I do remember was them playing at home to hull I think the place was pretty much empty.”
“Sunderland, only big club out of the four of us”
“Sheff Utd are by far the best team of the four”
