LEICESTER FANS

“And there goes our best striker”

“Literally our striker for the championship next season”

“We will regret this in the years to come, never given a proper run in the team”

“He’s not better than anything we have now, and I include edouard in that. We shouldn’t be selling him but only because we’ll need a championship striker next season”

I don’t think Cannon is anywhere near PL level but despite that, is still x400 better player than Edwardo”

“Always felt he looked alright for us, but just never got much play time, seems to be one of those that doesnt impress in training and sadly too many managers over emphasise training performances.”

“Whenever I watched him for us I thought he looked good abd that deserved a few more minutes.”

“His best skill is probably his off the ball movement and getting into space.”

“Cannon has a good strike on him and only needs 1 chance to bag”

“Im a little stumped by the lack of interest in him by Consecutive city managers.  I saw him i think 4 times last season and i think he scored 3 goals that i saw in person.  The other time he was played out wide which didn’t work.
But i thought he was useful, certainly more presence and physicality than daka and he can finish….he wasn’t given a proper opportunity or regular appearances to make more of an impression.”

“Take this however you want as it’s not a direct source, but I was told it by somebody who apparently has contacts within the training ground etc.
Apparently Cannon has all the technical skills etc but is just so painfully unintelligent that it’s almost impossible to coach any kind of nuanced tactics in to him, and that’s why Enzo (and subsequent managers) haven’t fancied him.”

“he can strike a ball very nicely which is obviously a good quality for a striker to have but it seems like if he’s not scoring he might as well not be there and really needs someone up alongside him to do the link work.”

“He’d do well playing off a big man but on his own as a striker neither skillful enough or quick enough.”

“He’s a 1 in 3 finisher but his overall game last season looked pretty poor. Can’t hold the ball up, not as quick as Daka and terrible first touch”

“Tell me you’ve never watched Tom cannon without telling me you’ve never watched Tom cannon. He’s missed some absolute sitters for Stoke this season and had 5 shots against Burnley alone. I don’t think there’s much if anything in it with them for finishing but Daka has more pace and better movement which will see him miss more chances than Cannon just through volume more than quality. I’ve seen nothing in Cannon that’s made me think hell be anything more than a Jordan Rhodes, McCormack, nugent type that will score goals regularly at champ level but doesn’t have much else to his game that will see him move up to prem level”

Cannon does have time on his side though and maybe with a supposed decent coach in rvn that side of his game will develop. I also think at this time with the state we are in there’s no point bringing him back, fans would quickly get on his back and his confidence would quickly get sapped. Let him progress with stoke this season and have a look in the summer

“He’s simply too slow, and apart from the odd good finish doesn’t have much else to his game. Mid to lower championship at a Preston/Stoke is his level”

“Too slow.
A  very poor matty ftyatt at best”

“Wouldn’t say he’s a “very poor” Matt Fryatt, he’s probably around the same level. I like Cannon and I think he has some good qualities but he’s not PL level.”

“He’s a Temu Michael Owen”

“Every time I’ve watched Stoke he’s barely in the game (bar the Portsmouth game), but that’s not down to him, they’re just atrocious.”

STOKE FANS

“I wish we had the money to keep him. Thanks Tom and good luck”

“He’s done more than any striker we have had since we came down,it’s taken us over 7 years to find a striker who could come close to getting 15/20 a goals a season, yet somehow we have to find another one within 2 weeks”

“Let’s not forget that he scored his goals in a woeful team that created little to nothing for him.
With decent midfielders, I am sure he increase his tally substantially. Whilst I think £13M is currently on the high side, I think it is reasonable given his age and resale value.”

“He’s a young talented striker scoring goals in a very poor team. If he keeps scoring them in a better team and potentially more, someone will throw twenty million for him.”

“All these top champ clubs and bottom end prem teams being linked to Cannon.
It’s almost as if they realise that goals are important and that they count when they come from free kicks and penalties as well as when they don’t.
Strange.”

“He’s a good footballer with a lot of potential.”

“For those that dont rate him its quite telling that better clubs than us are chasing him. He was never played to his strengths with us and you would only often see fleeting glimpse of his ability. White often he was flogged chasing down aimless balls and battling centre backs twice his size.
The proof will be when he moves on im convinced he will score a hatful for other sides.”

“At the end of the day, he was on course for 20-25 goals this season for a team sitting on the edge of relegation. No matter how you want to look at it/him, that is/would be an excellent return.”

“Cannon has been 10x the player for us that Delap was.”

“apart from finishing and movement he is nowhere near Delap and won’t get there. He barely won a header, barely held the ball up and was pretty terrible at link up play. We will miss his goals, but I don’t expect him to go and smash it in the premier league.”

“Cannon grew on me as the season went on.
I thought he was absolutely wank at first, but he does have that rare ability to stick the ball in the net. I wouldn’t say he was clinical, mind…he does miss plenty of chances that a genuinely good striker would score.
There’ll be far better value out there than Cannon for a fee hahahahaha £13m.”

“he never really fit into our team. Granted he has done reasonably well for us and more or less matched his non-pen xG with goals, but he’s not a lone striker. He played much better for Preston as part of a front two with wing backs and a supporting 10.
And not considering the goals he plundered against an utterly dreadful Portsmouth, he also missed very good chances against Swansea and Millwall that a £13M-rated player should have put away.”

“Cannon was decent for us, got some goals even if his overall game wasn’t great. Personally don’t think he’ll make it in the premier league, doesn’t have the physical attributes required and not good enough on the ball / finishing to make up for it. Decent Championship striker, maybe like Dave Nugent – never good enough to do it in the Prem”

“I don’t think Tom is a good enough footballer to make it in the prem.

Should have a successful career at championship level as a 15-20 goal a season player, poss more for a top side.
Pity we could not keep him. But he is replaceable.”

“My personal thought eventually think he will be to good for the championship and not good enough for the prem.”

“Well my two penneth on Cannon is that his his stats are better than he is a footballer. Not great in the air, medium paced and not really suited as a single striker up top on his own. Can finish. Hard to say what will happen. No way a Prem forward.”

“Cannon was better than we’ve had up front for a while, but compared to whom over the last 5/6 years and he was certainly not The Messiah.”

“Cannon was a decent poacher, but hardly irreplaceable.
The fee being touted seems very generous given his wider contribution to games.”

“He’s been massively underwhelming as our big marquee signing.”

“I am curious then how  Cannon has been underwhelming whilst on his way to a 20+ goal season.”

“Cannon is a massively limited player and if we go about it right the team will score more goals with a better player in there.
He doesn’t do anything well and that’s been a big part of the issue with us. He doesn’t improve the team.”

“he’s not that good.”

“Lots pf promise, not much product.”

“He has scored five goals in 20 odd games.
Pens surely don’t count?
Adds very little to the forward line, he is unable to link with other forwards, he is not an intelligent footballer.
Very poor in the air.
His big strength is he has a cannon of a shot when he gets an opening.
Surely a top striker needs more than that?
Robins will replace his goals, by a change of approach.”

“I do think Cannons record flatters him a lot.
Ignoring his game Vs Portsmouth in the Championship he’s only scored from open play in 3 more games.”

“So, if we ignore a load of goals that he scored, his record isn’t actually that good. Brilliant.”

“It’s made out he’s this incredible goal scorer we’re going to miss massively but when you look into details, it flatters him.
I’m not saying we won’t miss him and I wanted him to stay till end season. He’s just not a 13 million player at all.”

“I’m not arsed he’s gone. We need a striker but I thought we needed one when he was here, anyway. Better than I thought he would be, but take out the four goals he scored against a blindfolded, armless Portsmouth goalkeeper and his return is very ordinary.
No idea why Sheff Utd have bid £10+m for him.”

“if they can flog him to Shef Utd in this window for £13m they’ve played a blinder.
He isn’t worth anywhere near that.”

“We’ve spent stupid money on players not worth anywhere near what we paid for them before.
Irrespective of anyone’s thoughts on Cannon, £10m rising to £13m is absolutely ludicrous money and not something we should even remotely be considering.”

“Sheffield United planning ahead to the season after next when they get relegated again.
Now that’s forward planning.”

PRESTON FANS

“Just a friendly reminder that we had Liam Delap and Tom Cannon up front in the same season and finished 12th”

“It’s actually staggering to think that under Lowe we had Delap, Parrott, Cannon and Emil at the same time and combined they only scored 17 goals and we were the league’s 3rd lowest scorers.
In half of this season they have 36 goals between them already. Almost unbelievable”

“We need to try and find the next Cannon or Archer in January, we can’t keep controlling games, playing well but not winning.”

“Top player, thrives on playing on the shoulder of the defender. Give him the service and he will easily get over 15 goals”

“He’s class”

“Cannon could be a decent Championship player. He’s been rejected twice now by Premier League clubs”

“his run of goals for us was against relegation scraping sides. Nevertheless would be a starter for us no doubt”

“Take Cannon back in a heartbeat.”

“He’s not excelled at all since he left us so I’m not sure where this ridiculous price tag has come from”

“13 mill for cannon is nuts btw, good player when he was with us, probably only worth about 5m then, absolutely no way his price has gone up to 13m since that. never played when at leicester and only scored a few goals for stoke”

“Guaranteed 15/20 goals a season. 13 million sounds right”

“he scores goals at this level.”

“Tom Cannon could have become a hero at Deepdale but chose to be a squad player for more money”

“It would have been a disaster if we had signed him in the end. So much money and he would’ve arrived injured. We wouldn’t have signed any of the other players we did either and he would’ve missed large chunks of the season. Long term great, short term it might’ve hindered us.”

“cannon isn’t that good”

“Will Keane is better than that bum Tom Cannon”

“People rave on about cannon but I didn’t rate him when you compare him to other strikers Preston has had over the years”
