“Fair play if you’re bothering with this one after the awful dross of Saturday! Somehow The Lad has persuaded us to go the Sheff Utd on Saturday as it’s his birthday but I’d rather be gardening”
“I think all clubs have fans that feel fervently that they should be doing better, so many examples of clubs failing to deliver, in our league this season the Sheffield clubs, Leicester, WBA, Stoke (mega wealthy owners), Birmingham (after huge ‘investment’) etc etc . All clubs with far bigger fan bases but who must be frustrating the hell out of their supporters.
So for all our frustrations ( and I seriously do share them) have we really performed so badly?”
“I would just say, do you not think in a division with Wolves/Spurs/Burnley or Forest, plus the likes of Norwich and Brum/Sheff U missing the play offs AND the likes of Cardiff coming up…coupled with 23rd and probably a 17th/18th place finish in the last two seasons plus another major rebuild this year relying on loans…we’d be going down next season without a takeover?
It is the boredom of us that is killing everyone.”
“Can’t imagine any of their fans would want to swap their last 15 years for ours.”
“Stop whining. Sheffield Wednesday haven’t won a game since September away to Portsmouth! We are spoilt in comparrison!”
“If we’d signed McBurnie (Hecky’s first choice), instead of being forced to go for Smith on a freebie, most of our draws would possibly have been wins.”
“Heckingbottom has done a terrible job at this club”
“Will we sack him before or after we get hammered at Sheffield U on Saturday??”
“got that unbelievable sheff united squad promoted and there fans wanted him out says a lot”
“Heckingbottom is a soft man, threatened to put a bomb under the squad then didn’t manage it. Silly premeditated substitions instead of brave tactical substitions, and the feeling that when we do go 1-0 up we’re more concerned about not embarrassing them. The culture Heckingbottom (stemming from Lowe and McAvoy to some degree) stinks, and I wouldn’t expect him to get another Championship job unless the Sheffield United owners get bored.”
“he clearly has issues with too many draws, as he’s had with other clubs. And seems to struggle to get teams out of a rut when they’ve lost confidence and form. So despite him doing well for Sheffield United, when he did have a good team, I would be happy with a clean slate.”
“The season he took them up they didn’t sell a key player.
They had Sander Berge and Oliver Norwood in midfield. Literally running games on his own in the championship.”
“During the promotion season (2022-23)
Sheffield United had financial issues and even a transfer embargo during that period.
Heckingbottom only made two paid signings in that Championship campaign:
Despite that limited recruitment, he still got the team automatic promotion and an FA Cup semi-final.
So the promotion was largely done with the existing squad he inherited, rather than major spending. Many fans and pundits think Heckingbottom overachieved given the finances.”
“He won promotion with a comfortably top 2 squad.”
“his win rate at Sheffield United, which included a short period in the Premier League, was 50%, because a large portion of that was managing a good team in the Championship”
“Cast your mind back to when we played Sheffield United at home 2022. We were down to 10 me , Sheffield United were 0-2 up at half time and cruising.
Second half we played them off the pitch and drew 2-2. Can’t remember seeing anything quite like it.
Who was the Sheffield United manager that night?
Yep … never learns. You’d think after all this time he’d realise sitting back whilst making crap
doesn’t work.
I can’t watch another year of 3-5-2 bore ball!”
“I still think hecky is the best out there to get us out of this division. Just ask sheff Utd fans what they think of him. They think he is better than wilder.”
“Sheffield United will probably want to get rid of a few next season. Danny Ings and Tom Cannon would be good for us”
“we need to fully forget about Cannon now. He’s been poor at Leicester and Sheff U.”
