“Why aren`t we allowed to have nice things?”

“This hurts a lot”

“Feels like it would have been better if Blackburn had scored a last minute winner!”

” we looked pretty poor tonight even before the red card.
They always looked like they had another gear”

“Embarrassing. Feel sorry for the fans who turned up tonight.”

“Sheffield United didn’t play longball against us in either game this season. They tried to play their through and round the sides style with Hamer bail-out moments.
Wilder changed up for this game and did his homework and done a job on us in the first half and we’ve obviously helped them towards that and compounded the misery”

“Like watching the Leeds game again, just totally outclassed.”

“With time on the ball Sheffield are excellent. Put them under pressure and they panic.”

“Manning’s play style just doesn’t work against the best teams in the league like Sheffield United, we would get hammered every week in the premier league”

“Even with 11 we struggled to create. We’ve lacked that quality all season. Gutting that we are out of it already.”

“Sheffield is well above us and the only chance we could beat them would be maybe in a final if we could trade places with coventry.”

“Better team won, I can’t complain — well I can, but it wouldn’t be justified. Apart from the first ten minutes, we just weren’t in it.”

“Don’t think we would have got anything out of tonight even with 11 men still on the pitch.”

“We didn’t have a shot on target the first half. We were well out of it before Dickie entered the WWE”

“Rob Dickie ruined the game for 25,000 people tonight.”

“This is one of those games where we are all going to say What if? Dickie is going to have to live with that mistake for the rest of his life, probably for a lot of these players this was their only chance to have played in the Premier Leaue.”

“We finished in a false position to be fair, just to make the play offs. Just not good enough currently.”

“We had opportunities in the first half and getting joy down the left hand side, Williams effort off the bar the main one but lack of decent crosses and finding a man.
Vyner got exposed by Campbell numerous time and was embarrassing seeing him play LCB, would have thought Manning would have seen what Preston did to him at the weekend. Williams going off didn’t help matters. “

“we were right in it up till the penalty and red card, and can’t argue with those decisions”

“The sending off completely kills the game.”

In the first half the visitors were more dangerous but I was satisfied with our performance and thought that we could have handled them or at least lose narrowly…until that double episode, which killed us (penalty yes, red maybe harsh). After that, without Williams and Wells both injured, unfortunately it became only a matter of “how many”.”

“Can’t blame the fans for one of the most baffling decisions from one of our team leaders in the biggest game in the club’s last 18 years. Silent and shellshocked are appropriate responses. We had hope with a decent start and Dickie ripped it away with stupidity”

“They literally just held the ball and knackered us out We were simply beat by a much better team “

“obviously the penalty and red card swung the tie, but blimey, our defending was absolutely atrocious throughout”

“Thats the difference when you can bring quality on from the bench when all we can bring on is a carthorse like Armstrong”

“Personally thought that after a dodgy start we worked out way back into the game and start to take control of it for periods. They were a better team, and by the decisive moment were 60/40 on top imo but on the 11v11 showing didn’t deserve to end up 3 goals to the good. I had no idea at the time if it was a pen, red, or neither tbh – but if you give the ref a decision like that to make you always run the risk.
A real shame and very disappointing. Once the dust settles though it was a good season, best finish in 17 years, and a lot of exciting games as well. I stayed to clap the team off at the end.”

“I don’t think they were MUCH better. Maybe SLIGHTLY better but not 22 points better.
They exploited the sending off and hats off to them for that, but they didn’t rip us to pieces like Leeds did – and we had 11 men that night!!”

“Found that so hard to take, well in the tie until losing Williams and Dickie. Sheffield United looked bang average but we were always going to struggle with 10 men and our lack of depth.”

“3 – 0 to the referee”

“Shame parachute payments have made it very uneven playing field.”

“The red card obviously killed the game – I don’t think it should have been a red but only seen it once. Manning has come out swinging at the FA there, he’s not completely wrong tbh.”

“Got to say, I thought the reaction from the stands when it went to 3 was pretty embarrassing considering what the players have done for us since Christmas.
tonight couldn’t have gone any worse, but at least stay until the end to acknowledge their efforts imo.”

“The absolute exodus after the third goal was poor. Understand the tie is done but after a great season from the boys and the effort they’ve put in .. everyone in the dolman disappearing was poor.”

“We were  been practically silent half the game, embarrassing given how big a game this is for us.”

“It’s human nature I suppose, but suddenly I’ve started to feel a lot more affection for Frankie Lampard’s Cov and the Black Cats.”

“a team that probably cost 10 times more than ours, paying wages that are probably 5-10 times more as well it’s hardly surprising. I would prefer either Sunderland or Coventry going up over that lot, but I fear not…”

“There is always 2042”

“Earlier this season, Sheffield United lost 3-0 at home to Hull, irrelevant right now but some positivity that the tie isn’t over”
