Blades 0-0 Gillingham

“Not sure my heart can make much more of this! Another backs to the wall job, ending with ANOTHER clean sheet. I can’t remember when I last saw three consecutive away games without us conceding. Ehmer and Jackson were absolutely outstanding today, while Nelson pulled off his customary world-class save.
We tried hard going forward but Wright had an off-day by his standards (caught in possession or wayward quite a lot) so we struggled to get quality ball to the front two. The strikers worked hard but didn’t look that dangerous. Dickenson had a bit of a mare when in possession and Croft was fairly anonymous. Great to see Cody and Dack getting a run out at the end. We need them in the starting XI to give us more threat in the final third. Still, I’d have taken a point before the game, so we’ve got to be happy with that.” “Defensively, we were so good that they hit the post in the first ten miutes, if my memory is correct, they later hit the bar and Stuart Nelson saved the day – yet agin – by making a save which could, by another referee, be interpreted as a penalty. So much for your quote about our defence. If our defence was that good, we would not experience those incidents.”

“our defence was oustounding ? – it was extremely lucky had they someone who could shoot on target we could ave been 3 or 4 down”

“A great point.Sheff U would have been well up for it today because a win would have kept them in play off picture.Hard for them to make them now.”

“Dickerson was dreadful and he was taken to the cleaners by Basham. He was tarbeted by The blades as they know he cant defend. When they played around him he was clueless who to mark and where to go. Going forward he was dreadful. Sheffield were unlucky not to win this with 22 shots I think to our meagre 2 or 3 and apart from the post I cant remember us hitting the target ? We made Sheffield look good”

“The rationale is that Dickenson has had two poor games in my opinion and there by the grace of our dear Lord the opponents ie Coventry and Sheffield failed to capitalise.”

“It seems Sheffield have the same problems with corners that we do!”

“they battered us”

“They battered us, what do you expect when JE sets up so negatively”

“This was a total Gills team performance, both in attack and defence, against a talented Sheffield United outfit who were desperate for victory to keep their season alive.”

“In the end our defending was both brilliant and lucky at times, it was certainly very hard to watch. Utd had a lot of the ball in the 2nd half. It was a good 0-0 to watch. With a lot of the results going our way today I was really desperate for the win in the last 20 minutes, and maybe could have nicked it in what would have been nothing but a smash and grab, but in all honesty we probably did well to hang on to the draw. The ref just seemed to give us nothing all day as well. Even the penalty we should have had, even if he didn’t think it was in the area, it was a) never that far away from the area and b) he didn’t even book the Utd player. He seemed to be on another planet. He booked our player for a tackle (i think Oshilaja for closing down a opposition player clearing the ball) when he was actually looking the other way. He couldn’t have seen it, but booked him anyway. It was just typical of his refereeing all day. That said, he did get in the way of a particularly dangerous looking Utd attack so that was good. With all their posession though we still looked capable of nicking it on the counter though and had a couple of chances. The penalty that should have been or Oshilaja’s header over in the 1st half the most obvious chances I can think of. There was also another chance missed when Williams (i think) missed a fairly easy through ball which would resulted in a very good 1 on 1 for us.”

“We seemed to start very well and took the game right to them from the beginning, and they then upped the tempo leaving a very open game. until half-time.
As soon as the second half began, we were right under the cosh and quickly realised that we seemed vulnerable on the wings when defending. This wasn’t helped by a referee who’s performance was disgraceful at times. Ok, I can forgive the penalty call/handball decision, but the booking for Oshilija was extremely harsh considering there was no contact, and Luke Norris’s yellow for being on the field of play when having his leg treated- at the referee’s insistence- when he was actually off of the pitch was totally unwarranted.”

“we were under quite a bit of pressure, but a clean sheet and denied by a refs decision it seems”

“Should have had at least one penalty when crofts brought down but the ref gave a free kick instead and also a suspected handball on the line from a luke norris shot.
Another clean sheet, decent point away from home on to walsall at home Tuesday which is massive”

“Hessy went off after a challenge sounded like he lost a tooth.
Another injury that saw a head would to Adam El-Abd (all before half time).
Then Norris was booked for wanting to come on after he had his leg gashed open. I’m not saying Utd were rough but…………….”

“Well if they were rough we couldn’t have been much better, five yellows ??”

“Watching the Sheff Utd highlights and it appears we never got out of our half and yet we had, according to reports, several near misses and 2 possible penalties. A totally biased edited version of the game. “

“Totally agree pathetic one sided coverage. Perhaps the Gills highlights are tucked away somewhere else!! “
