Southend 2-4 Blades

“No shame in losing to the best side in the division, going up as champions in my opinion class side!!

“Give away 2 sloppy in the first half but we were well in it. Second half got battered credit to Sheff United best I’ve seen this season by a mile so quick”

“Sheffield United destroyed us but we thrashed Bradford a few weeks ago and they’re in the playoffs so clearly we do have the quality to beat big teams, even if we aren’t good enough for the biggest. Sheffield United are top of the form table for a reason, they aren’t representative of what we’ll face for the rest of the season.”

“We left with 15 left….set up was terrible but Sheffield were outstanding in every department, their fitness seemed far superior and they had us chasing shadows.
The unbeaten run had to end and no complaints from us 3,Sheffield were too good.”

“They were good but ultimately they only had 4 shots on target, but they all went in”

“As good as our unbeaten run was, Sheff United were the in form team comparably so no complaints from me”

“In my opinion we lost to the league winners today. Outplayed and out muscled. Players out of position and no proper wingers until second half…..Oh well onwards and upwards”

“Beaten by a strong side but we just didn’t get going in the 2nd half. Terrible goal conceded just before half time killed us as we looked pretty good up until then.”

“Not much to say.
Beaten by much better side.
Ranger poor IMO.
Anton bullied by Sharp.
Could have been different if Wordsworth effort had gone in at 1-1.
Fortune set up our first superbly.
No width.”

“The first 10 minutes had me worried, but after then I thought we were the better side in the first half and arguably didn’t deserved to be 2-1 at half time
However 2ND half we were awful and just didn’t get going”

“Beaten by a very good side today, however I don’t think we particularly covered ourselves in glory either. Poor tactics combined with half a team of tired players… They’re in need of a serious rest, before our league position starts to suffer!”

“Best team we have played this season .After the nightmare 15 minute start we more than competed, but then Ferdinand gave away a soft free kick and the entire defence went to sleep to gift their 2nd goal.
2nd half their speed and ability to get behind our backs really made it one sided along with some tired looking legs and miss placed passes.”

“First things first, we lost because Sheffield United were by far the superior team and the best we’ve played this season. They were quality on and off the ball and we just couldn’t cope. Ferdinand Struggled with their pace and movement at times, they targeted Timlin and without cover on the left wing he was exposed, first 20 minutes he had rings run round him. ”

“The better team won this match and will probably go up. I didn’t think they had any stand out performers but their work rate was excellent and they were in our faces right from the start”

“Without a doubt Sheffield will be up there at the death this season, certainly the best I have seen at the Hall so far. From the very beginning they were in our faces and on the attack…outcome 0-1 to them before we had even started playing. At that point I wondered whether we had it in us to equalise, and the answer was not that long coming when Cox continued his scoring run with a well drilled shot. At that point, until they scored their second I thought we matched them and I was watching two teams that will be there in the top 6. Just to **** me off we concede again but even then we had chances, a la Wordsworth which merited a goal. So, half time and I felt hopeful. It would probably be pointless to pick out good or bad performances at this point so I’ll save it for the end of this.
Second half, we continued to compete but final balls were wasted or clearances skied to no one in particular, and Sheffield made it very plain that they are a very good side, driving forward with purpose and always looking to score again. They got their wish and at three one there was only one side in it, and it wasn’t us. Cue the early departure brigade to starting sneaking out of the West stand! Then Sheffield just could not leave it alone and we were four one down and the North Stand was a sea of celebrating Blades fans….gits. All of a sudden, we started believing again and pushing forward. This was rewarded with McGlashan scoring to peg them back a bit, and had Cox’s thunderbolt have gone in rather than rattling the bar, the defeat would have been almost respectable.”

“Brown not taking bllame as usual despite hideous formation which we never do any well at and players out of position and no width put us on the backfoot from kick-off!!! We’ve been playing 4-4-2 on our long unbeaten run and this idiot changes it against the top team!!!”

“Spot on, can’t see why people support Brown so much. Sheff Utd were the last team you tinker with your formation against”

“I ain’t going to get involved in anti PB / pro PB debate … what I will say, is that I’m proud of the way we saw the game out, we finished strong, not with a whimper. I felt 1-1 at HT would have been fair. It’s our first defeat in 14 games, -against a very strong Sheff Utd team, who knew that they had been in a game today ! Let’s see how we react rather than dissect this game too much and not use this game / result as the yard stick.”

“for a 20 mins spell either side of our goal we played some great passing football, and we’re the better side, their 2nd goal set the scene for the 2nd half SheffU were probably the best side I’ve seen at RH this season, PB changed the tactics to counter their 3 at the back formation, it didn’t come off and he held his hands up to that”

“Losing 1 game in 14 to the best side in the league is unacceptable! Brown out”

“A fantastic run has come to a end and by probably by the best team in the division.”
