“My Owls fan mate wants to come if he’ll be able to stand with me and be a fan for the night!”
“Be interesting to see how many Rovers fans turn up at Bramall Lane. Not many I reckon after last nights shambles.”
“I was gonig but not bothering now, just simply as the game is worthless.”
“1200 tops I reckon, season over, I never seen a decent game between the two.”
“I know it’s not brilliant but it’s a night game and most fans don’t think we’ll get anything out of this season plus a couple
of hundred fans are banned because of ‘pyros’ talk on social media and a lot of fans refuse to come to home games because of
how poor we are at home and because we still have Dickov”
“We are nearer the relegation places than the play offs. 8 points from Relegation. 10 points from play offs.
We all know what happened from this point last season…………………………………………..Is history about to repeat itself?”
“Nailed on to win at Bramall Lane.”
“No chance. Another season wasted. Roll on next year !”
“We’ll draw. It won’t be inspiring but we won’t lose.”
“I have absolutely no idea which Donny team will turn up but we’ve gone from an outside chance of the play-offs to a possible relegation, given last season and the plonker we have in charge I wouldn’t bet against it.”
“Sheff U are shaky as hell at home so we have to tear at them. If we are going to miss out then I’d rather be able to say we
went out with guns blazing than with a whimper.”
“Mate of mine , well I say mate , if anyone can be friendly towards a Dingle, went on Saturday and said the Blunts totally out
“OK so its one game I am not best to comment on being a bus ride away. However I go and support my team through thick and thin
as do most on here, so I suppse we can only see our viewpoint in terms of floating support. I am expecting a massive
disapointment on Tuesday. Will we sell all the, i believe, 1500 posibly not. The season is over for a lot I fear. However I
hope we do sell more. “
“It’s local pride for me now and I want to finish above our mates from Dingleville.
Sheffield exile I am staying with Mrs Rover in that little place where Brian the Blade comes from”
“Whilst I do agree that Sheff u may be too soon for unleashing all of the kids, I think Lund, Middleton and McKay would give us
an energy that Utd would not be expecting and could give us a morale boosting victory. I am an eternal optimist though and live
in hope for an inspirational leader as a manager. Oh well so much for that dream”
“I will be there to see us beat the stuttering blades”
“The possibility of some good football from our team? Effort. Passion. Shots on goal. Tenacious defending. The manager showing
some tactical ability
I fear the worst even allowing for our decent away form we’ve played too many get out of jail cards this season, I fear a bit
of a spanking but yet I do so hope I’m wrong”
“everywhere I’ve been this season not one side has had a good home atmosphere”
“If Chris Smalling……is the 4th best centre back in England, then Andy-f***ing-Butler must be a decent shout for the 5th
“difference between Jones and Butler, they both have the passion and have the heart. ………… Jones could do his job,
Andy Butler cant.”
Barnsley 0-2 Sheff Utd
“did their keeper have a shot to save? Awful performance.”
“We’ve made a very mediocre side look like world beaters.”
“Beaten us in every department, fair and square”
“had to be against that lot too! theres not much in this division apart from the top 4. on our day we are as good of not better
than most of the rest, lets hope we have 6 or so good days before the end of the season”
“Sheffield United came and did a job on us. We tried to break through, the effort was there, but we werent good enough, it’s as
simple as that. “
“It’s been a magnificent run and it’s Sod’s law it has ended against the Blunts.”
“The not losing streak had to end sometime but WHY oh! WHY did it have to be..
..the blunts that ended it?? Following Barnsley is one long succession of disappointments punctuated by (very) occasional
“It is the infamous jinx with the Sheffield clubs. Over the years no matter how good we are playing both these clubs usually
get the wins. Typical as today. Need to push on everything not over as yet.”
“Sheff u deserved win, it’s gone move on.”
“Beaten us in every department. Such is life. 6th place still not out of touch..”
“Pretty even until the first goal then Sheff.Utd dominated. It pains me to say but they were organised and stronger all over the
“Run had to come to an end, worst performance for a while and just disappointing it comes against this lot.”
“No desire, no effort, nothing. Very poor.”
“Credit to them, they played well, high tempo, looked better on the ball & tactics were better. We were lucky it wasn’t a
mauling on that first half performance.”
“Today the game was lost from the dugout, one of the worst performances I’ve seen in a long old time.”
“We were wank today. Best team won. We don’t deserve to be anywhere near the playoffs on that performance”
“that was like watching your parents have intercourse “
“Well we completely bottled it today!!”
“The best side won today, we were beyond poor”
“Never turned up today, Sheffield Utd were up for it from minute 1 and fully deserved the win”
“Sheff United fans chanting ‘there’s only one Chris Morgan’ & making elbow gestures. Classy”
“Best side won. End of. No complaints we were poor”
“It was by no means the worst we’ve played this season. Not so much we were that bad, as they were able to stop us playing.
They were superior all over the pitch.”
“One up front at home??
we played like we were playing a big club… away. Poor very poor. not a single shot on goal.”
“It hurts more because of who it was but they deserved it, we were awful today.”
“But they wouldn’t have enjoyed it either, as their forums state categorically that they’re not bothered about us. At all.”
“Men vs boys. Only one team turned up today. We should never under any circumstances not have a shot on target all game.”
“they were crap never heard a word till they scored. Shit fans. first time they’ve ever filled away end lol”
“We ceratinly picked the most possible day not to turn up”
“we underestimated your guys expertise in this league but then again you have been in it that long
we were **** poor and on radio der dar it says it were grunts best performance of the season , congrats youve won your cup
final and had a day in the fresh air out of the smog and seen trees and that , well done”
“They did a good job on us and every ball they put into our box, most of which were quality, caused problems. “
“Well my first league since blunts away due to missus on maternity pay and being skint. amazingly disappointed saw there line up and thought we would win but we were shocking. WIth not going to any of last 9 can not comment on performances. But today was terrible no shape, could not handle constant long ball. Negative tactics and passes. To be fair we played better in 0-1 away win. We have a spell betwen 5 – 15 mins where we dominated ball but that was it”
“We have a team building in progress. We are not yet the finished article and this shows in some of the games, particularly today. If we got in the playoffs and got promotion, do you think this team could survive the Championship . I do not think so and we would be back to the moaning and groaning . I think same could be said of the Blunts too. So the excitement is good but I would think another year building a really good team and then go for it. There will be some players going out and some coming in, could be an interesting close season”
“Fair play to at least one of the Blunts team today
Their young lad down the west stand side with the plain flag had probably the most effective game I’ve seen by an opposition player this season.
Other than that they just worked harder than us and took advantage of an inexperienced keeper and lack of Williams/O’Sullivan type link player.”
“Id say they probably had the slight advantage of their players actually turning up and their manager actually having a clue.”
“I’ll make this clear, we were outplayed, out fought, out thought by Sheffield Utd.
We didn’t have a shot on target, our tactics were terrible.
It was like watching us under Danny Wilson.
Utd wanted it, and fought for it.
Well done lads.
In fact you should have had 3 or 4 more with our comedy defending and goal line clearances to keep you out.
Good support, and in my 40 years of watching at Oakwell I think that’s the most fans I’ve ever seen from you lot.
Reminded me of the Owls support, so good effort.
Still a way to go in this league and I think your main threat will be Chessie, unless we beat ’em next Saturday, then it’ll be us again!
May still see you at Wembley, but enjoy today while it lasts”
“We played absolutely shocking! That was a completely different side out there than what played against Bristol and Preston, just what the hell happened? Also; the sky sports score centre app seemed adamant we were playing 4-4-2 but I swear it wasn’t… Looked more 4-5-1, if so, WHY?
One up front at home in a derby? Sorry Lee, you’ve been tremendous so far but you got it tactically wrong today! I think I can see what he was trying to do, he was trying to control the game by packing midfield but it didn’t work at all and backfired massively, much worse than he probably anticipated.
And last but not least, the officials… We were shocking, yes, I’ll give you that, but to not even card a Sheff Utd player when he has more or less deliberately pushed a Barnsley player in the face? There were too many completely stupid decisions (or lack of decisions in some areas) to mention here but that one stands out as it effectively lead to the first goal.
Fair play to Sheff Utd, we got it tactically wrong, they capitalized on that and it could have honestly been an embarrassing scoreline of 3 to 4 nil today. Lee’s shown his first error as a manager today for me.”
“No complaints, that was one of our worst performances of the season and we deserved everything we got. Very disappointed.”
“Strikers on the wing, completely outclassed and no game plan. The fact we’ve lost isn’t what hurts, it’s the manner in which we lost. Absolute garbage today.”
“The way they celebrated it obviously meant a fair bit.
The best team won today admittedly. An away win each so honours even , now calm the fk down.”
“So just to be clear , the author (of this blog) is illiterate who needs to troll message boards and copy comments because he’s incapable
of forming a sentence and thinking for him self .
We get loads of requests on here to participate in giving our view on a forthcoming fixture , you notice I added the word
REQUEST , it works very well and everyone is happy .
Good manners cost nothing but clearly that’s too much for you Fritzal’s to spend.
Enjoy your deserved victory and see you next season , your manners are in keeping with your play off record .
To be fair your fans seem to find an opposition player almost losing his life after receiving an elbow by one of your players amusing so I’m hardly likely to feel like some circus freak because you blunts find my rant amusing .
I’m fully aware what a blog is and yes once a piece is sent into cyberspace it no longer belongs to the author , thanks for reminding me anyway .
My comments have clearly struck a nerve , you need to move away from the fly on the dog turd type blog and actually create something using your own initiative , blood sucking leeches were never popular .
I ain’t really bothered that a couple of geeky blunt cybersnakes drinking cans of monster who can only copy and paste find me none too clever .
I don’t really know how you get your material for much of the season , 90% of this league couldn’t give a flying feck about you , another season down here and you’ll have to close the site down fellas , may as well do it now there’s nowt for you lads in North London historically .”
” 10 games undefeated, dare we dream?”
“Barnsley are currently 13/5 to WIN on Saturday.
Jabo Ibehre is 8/1 to open the scoring, with Sam Winnall at 15/2 and Conor Hourihane at 9/1
It would appear that at this moment in time, the bookies are favouring the Blades, with United priced at evens, and Mark McNulty 11/2 to open the scoring. Matty Done is priced at 6/1.”
“I fancy a 1-1 draw”
“Blunts cant make their minds up If they are massive or not
Some of them don’t want to come in case they lose.
But then they won a game so all decided to come.
But then they lost so wish they hadn’t bought on”
“The second biggest team in the 4th biggest city in England, sat comfortably in a playoff position, they should have sold out in 5 mins. Very poor”
“AFTER ALL IT IS THEIR CUP FINAL : Wednesday would have sold out signs up weeks ago”
“more or less sold art? ya know what they say. theres a first time for everything?”
“Is Clough kidding us when he suggests its more important to ‘not lose’.”
“the more they bring the more will see what a gulf in class there is now between the teams which met in november. 5500 blunts scurrying off home to get back under their rocks after we.ve hammered em! sat cant come soon enough!”
“Thing is they are obsessed with attendances !! BCSD syndrome”
“I’m not too bothered about who’s Willy is bigger than the other, stood over urinals taking a peek, couldn’t gi a monkeys, I just hope it’s a cracking game with as little trouble as possible, a banging atmosphere…”
“To be fair to the Blunts it’s not a bad effort on Saturday to sell nearly 6k for a team in up and down form and a lunch time kick off .
Nobody is questioning who the blunts main rivals are , however it matters to them more than they let on and it’s the same with Sheffield North .”
“6000 fans in North stand this weekend who absolutely despise your club
and no doubt will give you hammer for 45 minutes, could you stand there and fully concentrate at 17 years old ?,
I think it’ll be a massive risk playing the pig in nets this weekend”
“You’re 17 years old. Have just made your professional debut. You read a message board and some dumb **** fan refers to you as a pig. One of your own fans.
Grow up you idiot. You’re boring the **** out of me.”
“Whats the bigger risk, playing at home against an average team or making your debut away against the runaway league leaders.
He passed his test with flying colours , he’ll be fine.”
“They’ll give him some right hammer on Saturday, nowhere to hide for the kid ether, only the lad and maybe Johnson and Crossley know if he’ll handle it but it’s got to be a worry for the coaching team surely.”
“We talking about same football club. They don’t make any noise. They will sing greasy chip butty in 1st minute and that’s it
I bet I had a harder time in goal when I was stand in goalkeeper once on a Sunday morning and a bloke stood behind net and every time ball came near me he said I was going to drop it”
“It’s United who I always think of as pigs. That may be because I used to work with a Wednesday fan”
“I always call Wednesday the Pigs. Swilsboro/Pigs link.”
“the police statement about the sheff utd match:
“We’re well aware that tensions are running high between the two groups of fans”
They are? Has something happened which I have missed? I thought it was just a football match against a local rival. What tensions are running high?”
“Another well thought out explanation by our friends at SYP”
“Act first, justify it later.”
“What a joke
Where playing Sheffield United not Galatasary”
“Might just mean tension over the points, if there is a loser then it’s going to cause a bit of emotion which could boil over. We lose and we’re in a bigger battle with the teams around us, they lose and their form (if it continues) puts them out of the play-offs in a few weeks. If the away fixture is owt to go by, the police’s attitude was as if it was an Old Firm game. Way over the top.”
“- Our biggest game against them for years.
– Both fighting for a play off spot at the back end of the season.
– Our supporters reputation this year.
– Them having one of the nastiest mobs about when they turn out.
– Biggest crowd at Oakwell in over 4 years.
– Early kick off
– Penny Black in the 90’s and 200 of them knocking on KGV pub door at 9am before a fixture 10 years ago.
Aye, l’ll say they’ve got it spot on.”
“There is also the hatred from Chris Morgan and Ched Evans stuff.”
“Ridiculous. What tensions? Just to go the match then go home. It’s a football team ffs, not ISIS”
“Chris Morgan happened. Most fans wil just go and enjoy the game but the minority who want to cause trouble have a ready made excuse, not that they need one.”
“17,500 is the latest box office prediction for the Sheff U attendance.”
“We’ll be Only the third team in this division to have an attendance over 16,000 this season. One of the other clubs is Coventry for their one off home coming before they went back to the norm.”
“Going to be very difficult on Saturday lunch time , we are playing an established league 1 club who have held their own for 5 seasons now at this level .
They have never looked in danger at any point during their league 1 tenure and with our selfs not carrying anything like their league 1 experience it’s going to be tough for our young lads .
It is of course our first season for many many years in league 1 and at times we have struggled to adapt to our new found surroundings but we do lack the experience the Blunts have and this may prove decisive on Saturday .
We can only dream of emulating their superb league 1 record but if we are to be as massive as they are then that is the model we should follow .
Looking forward to a great game if not overly confident , aye thank you .”
“Draw no good for us but decent result for Sheff Utd
We need to go at them from the first whistle
We are know united fans will be on Clough back soon as we go in front”
“I’d say, given the potential loss of confidence an unbeaten-run ending defeat to our local rivals may bring, that we need to win to have a decent chance of 6th as well.”
“Owt could happen, massive game for us both.”
“Seen United fans tweeting asking if they can take their tickets back, are football fans in general that fickle?”
“That feeling you get before a big local derby…What is it? Anxiety, passion, fear or a mixture of all 3?
I always get this feeling when we are playing Leeds and we’ve done ok against them recently I just can’t help but think we are setting ourselves up for a mighty fall… Suppose I’ll know at 2.15 on Saturday!!!”
“I just see it as a huge game in terms of league position and playoff push..”
“All I feel is a serene sense of calm, because we’re going to smash The Pigs.
Their players won’t turn up, and we’re dying to beat them because a) we hate them and b) we want to go up.
Nine unbeaten, at home, in front of a partisan crowd and a stand full of rape apologists who turn quicker than milk.
It’ll be a reight day.”
“Dread given I lived in Shitfailed for years and have loads of United supporting mates. Based on the inverse law of Proprotion we are playing ok them not so good they are bound to **** us.”
“I work with Pigs.
They all know I absolutely fcuking hate them. I try to be nice and friendly when we’re discussing football, but sometimes the mask slips and my true feelings become clear.
I’m up for this one in a way I haven’t been for a game since *that* day at Huddersfield.
They can’t beat us. They won’t beat us.”
“Can’t wait, should be 16-17,000 there and a cracking atmosphere. If United win then that’s 5th spot pretty much sewn up, our unbeaten run ended in the worst possible manner, and our play-off push in jeopardy. Which is why we’ve got to win. A fourth draw in a row wouldn’t be disastrous but we have to keep winning our home games. We’ve just taken a point each from the two best teams in the division, United’s confidence will have been knocked after a last minute home defeat to Crewe, but literally anything could happen on the day. All I want is 3 points. Don’t care how we get them, just get them.”
“Derby games between us and either of the two dee dar brothers are different from any of our other existing derbys… They almost always end up being dirty games so we need to be prepared for a fight.”
“I think our squad is better then theirs, and I think we have a better manager, I just hope we both turn up with our A games, then it should be a good game, and we’ll win.”
“Thing is, come 10 past 2 on Saturday, United fans will be saying the midfielders milk as just mentioned never turned up, when the chances are it’ll be the fact Pearson & Scowen did turn up, and did a job on them. If we get a result on Saturday it’ll be down to them two, same as if this season amounts to anything it’ll be down to having the best two midfielders of their type in the division.”
“when all’s said and done, we’re similar size clubs. They might do us on gates, but Arsenal get more in than Liverpool, wouldn’t suggest they’re any bigger though. We’re a small town club and considering that, our attendances are impressive. I’m sure that were we to have an extra 200,000 people living in the town/city/borough we’d get 20,000 too.”
“Send Collins back”
“Collins not convincing at all. “
“What were we expecting from Collins when he hasn’t played since October though? “
“Defence poor and I’m hoping there’s a lot more to some from Collins as he just seemed like another Robertson. “
“Collins was either very rusty or extremely lucky to have the career he has had. He still seemed injured to me, not running with any confidence and reminding me of Lines, running to edge of their half and trying a long ball. He should not have started anyway after being out since October and ideally brought in from the bench. “
“Interesting that collins was one of adams signings for sheff utd in his ill fated stint there as manager, and was one of the reasons he was criticised for his signings. I wonder if he was signed on a recommendation? “
“Question marks over Collins “
“Fairly good debut. Very good in the air but put through his own net in second half, struggled to deal with Dagnall’s runs in behind”
“the only player to look assured on the ball (Wallace) isn’t ours. And unbelievably we took him off to be replaced by another no-mark who has yet to show any reason for us to sign him! “
“I work with a Sheffield United fan and Wallace is quite highly rated there”
“Kieran Wallace failed to get a grip of the midfield “
“I’m guessing Sheff U will be paying his wages, i doubt it’ll cost us anything. Hopefully all works out for both parties and we can establish a decent relationship as we’ve done with Birmingham.”
“He didn’t look any better than what we already have or any better than Todd Jordan who we have let go. we need better than him”
“Kieran Wallace is more along the lines of what we should be looking at and links with clubs such as Sheffield United who have a number of strong youth prospects can only be a good thing “
” “Long had a bad night, but is miles ahead of what we have had since Randy left “
“I totally disagree with this opinion. And I’m not just saying that because of last night. He looks the part but that’s it. What has he done since he came in to suggest he’s better than twardzik? The other week the caley thistle boys header went through him. He hardly covered himself in glory for countys goals either. I only recall one exceptional piece of goalkeeping from him – one on one vs caley (you could add his save from the initial header last night but his next action made up for it).
I agree he has potential but right now he’s not the answer. “
“Its wrong to focus blame on George Long last night. In general he was continually left far too exposed by his 2 full backs and central defence “
“The facts are that Long has made as many bad mistakes now as Twardzik in a third of the games.
I don’t think it’s a good idea to keep chopping and changing the goalkeeper but Long situation is like that of the team, he’s getting close to the last chance saloon. He/we cannot afford any more mistake “
“ Very few had concerns about Long’s ability prior to last night. The first was unfortunate – watched in real time the ball is slowly rolling towards the goal hence his hasty reaction. “
“ i think long is a good keeper. “
“Before last night Long had done absolutely nothing to suggest he is any better than Dan. After last night he should be dropped. 1st goal – OK it was a free header which was criminal, but a cross inside the 6 yard box is keeper territory and dealing with crosses was everyone’s main criticism of Dan. Great save from the header to be fair, then the less said the better.
2nd goal, what the actual fuck was going through his head? 2 centre half’s there to deal with what was nothing more than a hopeful punt. Laing is clearly watching the ball with one intention – nodding it back to the keeper. If long is coming for that (which he should never ever ever ever ever have been) then scream bloody murder to let laing know.
Long has potential but he cost us last night and we can’t afford that level of complacency in the position were in. Bring back Dan. “
“I think Long should be dropped next week but it won’t happen. “
“I think Long is a decent keeper, but his spectacular save to howler ratio is every bit as bad as Dan’s which is worrying. “
“ Long isn’t filling me with confidence “
“I would still stick with Long “
“ Long has been ok “
“Despite the England youth caps he is behind the ex St Mirren goalie Howard in the pecking order at Bramall Lane so we shouldn’t be expecting miracles. “
